Cap Classique & warm valley hospitality
A warm, generous valley east of the mountains, Robertson is the home of South African Cap Classique — and a place where the welcome is as memorable as the wine.

The valley in detail
Robertson is a warm, generous valley east of the Du Toitskloof mountains — two hours from Cape Town, but a world away in pace. This is Cap Classique country: the chalky soils and warm days produce some of South Africa's finest sparkling wines, made in the traditional method. But Robertson is also known for rich Chardonnay, full-bodied Shiraz, and a handful of fortified wines. The valley is broader and flatter than the coastal regions, with wide-open skies and a real sense of space. The welcome here is famously warm — family-run estates, generous tasting plates, and cellar doors that don't rush you. Come for the bubbles, stay for the hospitality.

Robertson wine route FAQ
The questions we hear most about planning a wine tour in Robertson.
Robertson has its own character — soils, climate and cellar style — which is why we build routes around regions rather than cramming them all into a day. Tell us what you love (bold reds, crisp whites, scenic picnics) and we'll match the Robertson estates that do it best.
