The inside track

The estate

Windfall Wines is a boutique estate in the Robertson valley offering wine tastings and self-catering accommodation in a tranquil mountain setting.

Set against a backdrop of rolling vineyards and breathtaking mountain views, Windfall Wines offers an authentic escape into the heart of the Robertson Valley. Established in 2002 by Robert Alexander, the estate was born from a spontaneous dream, inspired by a chance encounter with a perfect glass of wine during a bike trip through Africa. What began as a single Sauvignon Blanc vineyard has blossomed into a boutique winery producing a full range of elegant wines, a Méthode Cap Classique, and a potstill brandy. Windfall is a place where patience, passion, and respect for nature come together—offering guests a warm, tranquil retreat and wines that reflect the character of the land.

Wine

Windfall Wines is celebrated for its handcrafted, terroir-driven wines that capture the essence of the Robertson Valley. With vineyards rooted in the red Karoo soils and limestone-rich terrain, the winery produces wines of exceptional complexity, balance, and depth. Each vintage is the result of minimal intervention and thoughtful cultivation, allowing the unique characteristics of each block to shine through. The range includes nine wines, a classic Cap Classique, and a finely crafted potstill brandy—each bottle telling a story of passion, perseverance, and the pursuit of perfection. Wine lovers will find layers of aroma, smoothness, and lasting structure in every sip.

Dining

While Windfall does not have an on-site restaurant, guests are welcome to enjoy the farm’s tranquil ambience with a glass of wine in hand. The surrounding Robertson area offers a variety of dining options—from rustic farm cafés to gourmet restaurants—perfect for pairing with a day of wine tasting and countryside exploration.

Wine Tasting

A visit to Windfall is a chance to slow down and savour the simple pleasures of farm life. Guests can explore the estate and take in panoramic views of vineyards and mountains. Relax with a wine tasting and sample the full Windfall range. Stargaze from the porch of their cottage or enjoy a glass of wine by the fireplace. Discover the region, with easy access to the Robertson Wine Route and local attractions. Whether you’re enjoying a romantic escape or a peaceful weekend away, Windfall’s quiet charm and natural beauty set the stage for a restorative experience.
