The estate

Viljoensdrift is a family-owned wine estate located on the banks of the Breede River in the Robertson Wine Valley, famous for its scenic river cruises and gourmet deli picnics.

Situated just 90 minutes from Cape Town, Viljoensdrift is a family-owned wine estate nestled south of the Elandsberg Mountains, along the banks of the Breede River in the heart of the Robertson Wine Valley. With a winemaking heritage dating back to 1818, the estate is now led by brothers Fred and Manie Viljoen, whose passion and pioneering spirit transformed their vineyard operation into a celebrated winery in 1998. The estate is known not only for its award-winning wines but also for its welcoming atmosphere, picturesque river views, and memorable visitor experiences that reflect the essence of countryside living.

Wine

Viljoensdrift produces a broad spectrum of wines designed to please a variety of palates—from everyday easy-drinking favourites to more refined, premium selections. Their three signature ranges include the Viljoensdrift collection, the flagship River Grandeur range, and the premium Cellarmaster’s Selection.

The estate’s fertile, alluvial soils and riverside location create ideal conditions for noble varietals like Shiraz, Pinotage, and Chardonnay. Crafted with care and supported by generations of expertise, Viljoensdrift wines offer excellent quality at accessible prices—ranging from R30 to R120 per bottle. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or a casual wine lover, there’s something here for every taste and budget.

Dining

Guests at Viljoensdrift can enjoy a casual dining experience on a sunlit deck overlooking the Breede River Valley, offering a menu of hearty pizzas, gourmet burgers, fish & chips, and family-friendly meals. For a more laid-back option, visitors can craft their own gourmet picnic from the deli, choosing from a selection of artisanal breads, cheeses, pâtés, premium charcuterie, and specialty condiments—perfectly paired with a bottle of Viljoensdrift wine and enjoyed on the deck, aboard a river cruise, or along the grassy riverbanks.

Experiences at Viljoensdrift

At Viljoensdrift, wine tourism goes beyond the glass. Guests can look forward to a variety of engaging experiences:
