About this tour
Follow South Africa's own grape from the place it was created to the estates that made it famous. Our private Pinotage wine tour traces the story of Pinotage through Stellenbosch, with tastings, cellar and vineyard tours, and a Pinotage-themed lunch along the way.
Pinotage was created in 1925 at Stellenbosch University by Professor Abraham Izak Perold, who crossed Pinot Noir with Cinsault (then known locally as Hermitage). A century later, it's South Africa's signature red. This tour visits the landmarks of that story, from the first Pinotage vineyard to some of the country's most celebrated producers.
