The food & wine capital
Franschhoek wine tour
from Cape Town
A mountain valley of wine
Boutique estates · the Wine Tram · long lunches
The most picturesque wine region in the Cape.
Why Franschhoek
The most beautiful wine valley in the Cape
Tucked into a mountain bowl an hour from Cape Town, Franschhoek is where French Huguenots planted vines in 1688. Today it's the Cape's food and wine capital — boutique cellar doors, world-class restaurants and the famous Wine Tram, all framed by dramatic mountains.
Spectacular setting
A green valley ringed by mountains — the most photographed wine region in South Africa.
The Wine Tram
The hop-on hop-off tram loops the valley's estates. Ride it solo or with a private driver to and from Cape Town.
Food capital
More fine-dining restaurants per square metre than anywhere in the Cape. Lunch is the whole point.
Boutique estates
Small, intimate cellar doors — sparkling specialists, serious reds, rose-garden tastings.
Two ways to do it
The Wine Tram, or your own private tour?
Both are brilliant — the right one depends on your style. Here's how to choose.
The Franschhoek Wine Tram
A hop-on hop-off loop on one tram line around a fixed set of estates. Relaxed, social and self-guided — you curate your own day within the line's schedule.
Best if you want an easy, sociable day and are happy to go with the flow.
Explore the Wine TramA private Franschhoek tour
Your own guide and vehicle, on your schedule, to any estates in the valley. No waiting for the next tram, no fixed route — and hotel pickup from Cape Town included.
Best if you want full control, specific estates or a special occasion.
