A hilltop country estate between Plettenberg Bay and Knysna, set on a working Jersey dairy farm surrounded by indigenous forest and distant ocean views. Hand-selected, sustainably grown grapes produce Cap Classique, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, served with farm-fresh lunches.
Tucked between Plettenberg Bay and Knysna, in the heart of the Garden Route, Packwood Wine Estate is a down-to-earth winery and working country estate surrounded by indigenous forests and unspoilt nature. Getting here is a scenic adventure off the beaten track, and the reward is worth every turn – sweeping views, handcrafted wines and bubbly, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. This is a place where every sip tells a story, and every visit connects you to the land, its people, and its produce.

Wine
Packwood’s vineyard was planted in 2006 on the crest of the farm, 330 metres above sea level, with a mix of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. These cool-climate grapes, nurtured by sustainable farming practices, yield wines and bubblies that are distinctive to the estate’s unique terroir. Rain harvesting, natural fertilisers, biodynamic principles, and five generations of farming knowledge ensure a healthy, symbiotic relationship between vine and soil. The result is elegant wines full of character, reflecting both place and passion.
Dining
While not a restaurant, Packwood offers a delightful homemade farmhouse cheese lunch that celebrates the estate’s own pasture-fed Jersey cows. Creamy, fresh, and delicately flavoured cheeses are served with home-baked bread, preserves, and salad from the garden, all 100% sustainable. Guests can enjoy their lunch with a glass of their favourite Packwood wine while soaking in panoramic views across the farm – a simple, soulful experience that’s as relaxing as it is delicious.
Wine Tasting
Wine tastings take place in the charming outdoor tasting area or on the lawn when the weather is fine, offering guests a chance to enjoy both the wines and the scenery. Packwood produces Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Blanc de Noir, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, and sparkling wines, though stock is limited and often sells out quickly – so if you find one you love, be sure to take it home.
