The inside track
The estate
On the slopes of the Kasteelberg above Riebeek-Kasteel, Kloovenburg is a family-run Swartland wine and olive estate. Come for seated wine and olive pairings, a tree-shaded family restaurant, mountain trails and a four-room guesthouse among the vines.
Kloovenburg dates back to 1704, and the du Toit family has farmed it since 1956. It sits on the lower slopes of the Kasteelberg, just outside the village of Riebeek-Kasteel, about an hour and a half from Cape Town. Over the decades, it has grown from a farm that started out treading grapes by foot into one of the Swartland’s best-known producers of both wine and olives.

About
Wine
The vineyards cover schist and deep Hutton soils along the mountain’s lower slopes, and only the best parcels go into Kloovenburg’s own wines. The ranges run from the everyday Stamboom wines through the Estate, Riebeekberg and Eight Feet ranges to the Reserve. The farm also produces olive oil, cured olives, tapenades, olive chutney and even olive body products, all sold in the farm shop.
Dining
Kloovenburg Kringe Inni Bos is the estate's rustic, open-air restaurant, perfect for families. With shaded seating beneath the trees, parents can enjoy delicious fare while kids explore a thoughtfully designed play area. The estate is also known for its wide selection of olives, olive oils, tapenades, and pestos – a true celebration of the Mediterranean lifestyle in the Swartland.

Wine Tastings
Tastings are seated, in the old wine cellar or outside with views across the vineyards. Choose a wine flight from one of the ranges, an olive tasting, or a pairing of wine and olives: mixed, white, red, Eight Feet or Prestige. Add a meat and cheese platter for two to make an afternoon of it. Booking is recommended. Monday to Saturday 09:00–16:30, Sunday 10:00–16:00.
Wine & Olive Pairing
Kloovenburg’s signature experience pairs its wines with the estate’s own olives, oils and tapenades. Choose from mixed, white, red, Eight Feet or Prestige pairings, or an olive-only tasting.
Meat & Cheese Platters
Platters for two with cured meats, local cheeses, bread from a local bakery, crackers and Kloovenburg olives, olive oil and balsamic.
Hiking Trails
Day trails on the Kasteelberg, from short, easy walks to longer climbs. Check in at the tasting room first to sign an indemnity form and collect a route map.
Family & Kids
Shaded family dining at Kringe Inni Bos with a play area nearby, plus a kids’ pairing for younger guests.
Farm Shop
Wines, grape juice, olives, olive products, olive body products and gift boxes to take home.
