The estate
As the oldest wine estate in the Swartland, Allesverloren is a historic landmark renowned for its pioneering work with Portuguese grape varieties and robust red wines. Nestled on the slopes of the Kasteelberg, it offers visitors a rich heritage experience in the heart of the Riebeek Valley.
Allesverloren Wine Estate is a renowned winery located in the picturesque Riebeek Valley of the Swartland Wine Region in South Africa. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 17th century, making it one of the oldest wine farms in the region. Allesverloren, which translates to "all is lost" in Dutch, is named after a shipwreck that occurred off the Cape of Good Hope. The estate spans over 227 hectares (560 acres) of prime vineyard land, characterized by its unique terroir. The vineyards benefit from the Mediterranean climate of the Riebeek Valley, with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The diverse soil types, ranging from shale to decomposed granite, contribute to the complexity and character of the wines produced at Allesverloren.
Wine
Allesverloren Wine Estate is primarily known for its production of red wines, with a strong emphasis on traditional Portuguese varietals. The estate specializes in crafting premium quality wines, with a focus on the bold and robust flavours that have become synonymous with the region. Key grape varieties cultivated at Allesverloren include Tinta Barocca, Touriga Nacional, and Shiraz, among others.
The estate's flagship wine is the Allesverloren Fine Old Vintage, a fortified red wine crafted in the style of a vintage port. This iconic wine showcases the estate's commitment to producing exceptional fortified wines that age gracefully. Additionally, Allesverloren offers a range of red wines, including blends and single varietals, each showcasing the unique expression of the vineyards and winemaking techniques.
