De Krans Wines is a historic, family-owned estate in Calitzdorp, renowned for its pioneering work with Portuguese grape varieties and award-winning port-style wines. Located along the scenic Route 62, the estate offers visitors a welcoming bistro, deli, and a diverse range of premium wines.
Nestled along the upper reaches of the scenic Gamka River Valley near Calitzdorp, De Krans Wines boasts a rich history dating back to 1890, when it was acquired by the Nel family. Over the decades, the estate has established itself as a pioneer in the South African wine industry. Since 1985, it has focused on cultivating classic Portuguese port and wine varieties, earning its reputation as one of the country's leading producers of port-style wines and a hub of innovation.
Wine
De Krans has solidified its place as a trailblazer in South African winemaking. It holds the distinction of being the first to produce a Touriga Nacional as a dry red wine, the first Pink port-style wine, and South Africa's inaugural perlé Moscato. The estate continues to shine with accolades for its creativity, including the prestigious Most Innovative Wine Award at the Michelangelo International Wine Awards for the De Krans Espresso.
