Tucked away at the frontier between the Cape Winelands and the heart of the Klein Karoo lies Boplaas Family Vineyards, a heritage-rich estate with roots dating back to 1880. Located in Calitzdorp, this family-owned farm has been home to the Nel family for over six generations. From its humble beginnings, when brandy casks were first shipped to Cape Town by ox wagon, Boplaas has grown into one of South Africa's most celebrated producers, known for its warm hospitality, exceptional wines, and proud commitment to conservation.
Wine
Boplaas has long been renowned for its dedication to Portuguese and Mediterranean varietals, crafting elegant and expressive wines that reflect the rugged terrain of the Klein Karoo. Alongside its famed Cape Port-style wines, Boplaas also produces a range of table wines, spirits, whisky, brandy, and small-batch gin. The estate thrives on the passion and innovation of the 6th generation of the Nel family, with Rozanne leading the marketing, Margaux as head winemaker, and Daniel overseeing distillation and product development.
Deeply committed to sustainability, Boplaas has set aside over 5,000 hectares for nature conservation and contributes a portion of its international wine sales to environmental initiatives, echoing its philosophy that wine, family, and land are intrinsically connected.

While Boplaas does not offer a full-service restaurant on site, guests visiting the tasting rooms can enjoy pairing experiences featuring artisanal cheese, charcuterie, and local delicacies.
