The estate
A Tuscan-inspired estate at the foot of the Simonsberg in Paarl, where Bordeaux varietals meet Sangiovese in a Super Tuscan expression of Cape terroir.
Set on 60 hectares of pristine land at the foot of the majestic Simonsberg, Baccō Estate is a refined tribute to the spirit of Tuscany in the heart of the Cape Winelands of South Africa. Born from a dream to create the "holy grail" of premium wine, this Super Tuscan-inspired estate blends Italian romance with the rich viticultural heritage of Paarl. Italian cypresses line the vineyard blocks, gently swaying in the Cape breeze, while Bordeaux varietals meet Sangiovese in a harmonious expression of place.
Directly across from Santé Wellness Retreat and just a stone's throw from the Vilafonté vineyards, Baccō is perfectly positioned within one of the most prestigious pockets of the Winelands. Life at Baccō unfolds in a slow, intentional rhythm — guided by the seasons, rooted in nature, and inspired by artistry. Their philosophy is simple yet profound: great wine, like great art, cannot be rushed.
Wine
Baccō Estate specialises in Bordeaux varietals complemented by Sangiovese, crafting elegant single cultivars and expressive blends in true Super Tuscan style. Under the expert supervision of internationally renowned vine specialists Simonit & Sirch, the vineyards benefit from world-class research into vine health and structure. Through meticulous pruning, suckering, and canopy management, each vine is nurtured to produce fruit of exceptional balance and depth. The result is a collection of refined, structured wines — generous, layered, and crafted to engage all the senses. These are wines that reflect patience, precision, and a deep respect for terroir.
Dining
Baccō's culinary offering draws inspiration from authentic Italian flavours — reimagined with a contemporary hand. The estate's food ethos is grounded in seasonality. Ingredients are carefully selected at their peak, allowing natural flavours to shine. Dishes are world-class in execution, yet comforting and nostalgic at heart — reminiscent of shared meals around a Tuscan family table. At Baccō, dining is not hurried. It is an experience — a celebration of good food, fine wine, and meaningful connection.

Our Visit
· September 2026We visited Baccō Estate
Baccō makes a strong first impression. From the tasting area, you can look out toward Paarl Rock and the Taal Monument as you work through a flight that moves from lighter wines to reds.
Rosé 2024
The Rosé 2024 surprised me with its fruit-forward start and grapefruit note on the finish.
Chardonnay 2024
The Chardonnay 2024 was more of an acquired taste for me: fruity at first, with a fuller mouthfeel and a touch of bitterness at the end.
Prelude Syrah 2020
I enjoyed the dark fruit in the Prelude Syrah 2020.
Red Blend 2021
The Red Blend 2021 was smooth and easy to drink, though it had a slightly bitter finish.
Prelude Red Blend 2019
StandoutThe Prelude Red Blend 2019 was my clear favourite. Smooth, medium-bodied and full of flavour, it’s the bottle I’d choose to share with friends or enjoy beside a fire.
For me, that wine and the view made the visit worthwhile. If the Prelude is your favourite too, ask about the vertical tasting to explore how different vintages compare.
