Spice Route Destination is a vibrant artisanal hub in Paarl offering a diverse collection of tastings, including wine, craft beer, spirits, charcuterie, and chocolate. Set on a historic farm with stunning mountain views, it provides a family-friendly experience with outdoor activities and multiple dining options.
Dating back to 1693, Spice Route Destination’s heritage is rooted in the historic farm of Leeuwenjagt, meaning “hunting lions.” The present identity of the Spice Route in Paarl emerged in 1997, inspired by the mariners of the 15th century who traversed the Spice Route, trading Eastern spices to Europe. Initiated by the current owners, this destination in Paarl pays homage to the spice trade’s rich history.

The Swartland’s new era began in 1997 when Charles Back discovered Klein Amoskuil, an old Tobacco farm. Charles acquired the farm, recognizing the exceptional grape quality in a region known for wheat and fynbos hills, giving rise to Spice Route Winery. Hand-crafted wines from the Swartland find a home at Spice Route Destination in Paarl, offering wine enthusiasts a rustic underground tasting room or an outdoor experience under the pergola, with breathtaking views of Table Mountain and the Simonsberg Mountain range.

Spice Route boasts three distinct dining experiences. Jewell’s Farm Bistro embraces a farm-to-table concept, serving classic and honest cuisine. La Grapperia Pizza & Bistro tantalizes taste buds with wood-fired pizzas and German-Italian fare. Ristorante Pasta Pasta provides an authentic Italian breakfast and lunch experience, adding culinary diversity to the destination.
