The inside track

The estate

Paul Wallace Wines is a family-owned boutique estate in the heart of the Elgin Valley, producing cool-climate, terroir-driven wines and offering charming self-catering farm cottage accommodation.

Wallovale Vineyards, the home of Paul Wallace Wines, is a family-owned treasure tucked away in the picturesque Elgin region of South Africa. Paul and Nicky Wallace embarked on this journey in 2003, transforming a 25-hectare farm into their very own piece of paradise. Paul’s expertise as a viticultural consultant found its true expression in the cool-climate region of Elgin, known for apples and pears, but fast emerging as an exciting wine destination, both locally and internationally.

Wine

The vineyards at Wallovale have replaced orchards of Golden Delicious and Granny Smith apples with grape varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. These vineyards cover 12.5 hectares of the estate, producing exceptional wines. The remaining four hectares of arable land are a topic of lively debate at the dinner table. The estate’s dedication to winemaking is reflected in its commitment to quality and innovation.

Dining

While Wallovale Vineyards itself doesn’t have a restaurant, the surrounding area offers a plethora of dining options. Explore local village pubs and elegant eateries to satisfy your culinary cravings. The region’s food scene complements the wine culture beautifully.

Wine Tasting

At Paul Wallace Wines, the journey begins with the wines themselves. The estate is renowned for its exceptional cool-climate wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. As you step into their charming tasting room, you’ll be welcomed by the friendly and knowledgeable hosts, often members of the Wallace family. They are passionate about sharing their wine journey with you.

You’ll have the opportunity to sample a selection of their finest vintages. Each wine tells a unique story, reflecting the terroir of the Elgin region and the expertise of the winemakers. The tasting experience is not just about sipping wine but also about understanding the nuances and characteristics of each varietal. The hosts will regale you with tales of the estate’s history and the quirky stories behind the wine names, adding a personal touch to your visit.

Chocolate and Wine Pairing

What makes Paul Wallace Wines truly special is the decadent pairing of their wines with delicious Belgian chocolates. This harmonious combination of fine wine and exquisite chocolate takes your taste buds on an enchanting adventure.

The expertly chosen chocolates complement the wine profiles, enhancing both the flavours of the wine and the chocolate. The velvety, rich notes of the red wines harmonize beautifully with dark chocolates, while the crisp, citrusy whites find their match in creamy, luscious offerings. Each pairing is a carefully curated experience, aiming to create a symphony of tastes that dance on your palate.
