The inside track

The estate

Langverwacht is a boutique wine producer in the Stellenbosch region, focusing on traditional viticulture and quality craftsmanship.

Langverwacht Cellar, established in 1954 and located just outside Bonnievale on the Stormsvlei Road, is a cornerstone of the Robertson wine region. Originally named Boesmansrivier Wine Cellar, the estate was renamed to avoid confusion with the local cheese factory and to honour the farm on which it was built. The cellar enjoys a prime terroir where warm summer days are cooled by ocean breezes, and vineyards thrive in a diverse blend of sandy, lime-rich, and red clay soils. This natural harmony allows Langverwacht to produce fruit-forward, approachable wines that reflect the unique personality of the region.

Wine

Langverwacht processes over 13,000 tonnes of grapes annually, with an impressive 85% devoted to white cultivars such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Colombar. Red varietals include Pinotage, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Ruby Cabernet. The cellar's reputation for consistency and quality is underscored by numerous Michelangelo and Veritas awards. The Shiraz is regarded as the flagship wine, while the Chardonnay and Colombar are also standout offerings. Under the leadership of Cellar Master Marko Pentz, with winemakers Theunis Botha and Andries Le Roux, Langverwacht continues to blend traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology—evident in the fully automated red wine fermentation facility introduced in 2000.

Dining

There is no on-site restaurant at Langverwacht Cellar, but guests are welcome to enjoy their wine tasting experience at a relaxed pace. Nearby Bonnievale offers a variety of local eateries and country cafés for those looking to pair their visit with a farm-style meal.
