The inside track

The estate

Kleinhoekkloof is a boutique wine estate in the heart of the Stellenbosch winelands, known for its handcrafted wines and intimate tasting experiences.

Tucked away in the foothills of the Langeberg Mountains, Kleinhoekkloof Wines is an award-winning, family-owned boutique wine and olive farm with a rich heritage dating back over a century. Since its acquisition by the de Jongh family in 2004, the farm has flourished into a sanctuary for handcrafted wines, artisanal charcuterie, and authentic country hospitality. Its secluded location and breathtaking natural setting offer visitors a peaceful and immersive Winelands experience rooted in craftsmanship and sustainability.

Wine

Kleinhoekkloof lies on the southern slope of the Langeberg range in the Robertson Wine Valley, also known as the Valley of Wine and Roses. The estate's vineyards span elevations from 323 to 420 meters above sea level and are planted in some of the most ancient viticultural soils on earth—weathered shale, schist, and felite derived from dramatic tectonic activity dating back 500 million years. These nutrient-poor, rocky soils challenge the vines to struggle and thrive, resulting in intensely expressive wines with a true sense of place. Shiraz and Merlot benefit from the rugged, shallow soils on the outer slopes, while Sauvignon Blanc flourishes in the deeper, richer soils near the mountain-fed stream. Each bottle of Kleinhoekkloof wine tells a story of struggle, heritage, and geological wonder.

Dining

Though there is no restaurant on site, Kleinhoekkloof offers thoughtfully curated charcuterie platters for guests wishing to enjoy a relaxed, flavourful food and wine experience. These platters include artisanal meats, homemade peach chutney, preserved figs, Dalewood Fromage cheeses, freshly baked bread from The Pastry Place in Montagu, and the farm's own olive oil. In keeping with the estate's focus on quality and presentation, platters must be booked at least one day in advance to ensure the freshest, most satisfying experience.
