The estate

Goede Hoop Wine Estate is a charming, family-run farm in the Bottelary Hills offering a relaxed wine tasting experience and fine dining. Known for its unpretentious atmosphere, it is a perfect stop for lovers of classic Stellenbosch reds.

Tucked away in the serene Bottelary Kloof valley, Goede Hoop Wine Estate is a family-owned winery with a rich heritage dating back to 1880. Situated between Stellenbosch and Kuils River, this historic estate has been home to the Bestbier family since 1928. Now in the hands of third-generation winemaker Pieter Bestbier, Goede Hoop continues its legacy of crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Bottelary Hills. With its picturesque landscapes, rolling vineyards, and deep-rooted winemaking traditions, Goede Hoop offers visitors an authentic taste of the Cape Winelands.

Wine

Spanning 120 hectares, Goede Hoop's vineyards are perfectly positioned along the slopes of the Bottelary Kloof valley, with 80 hectares under vine. The estate's varied elevations—rising 250 meters from the lowest to the highest vineyard—create diverse meso-climates that enhance grape quality. A unique horseshoe-shaped vineyard layout ensures optimal sun exposure for each variety, allowing for perfectly ripened grapes with balanced acidity and depth of flavour.

Beneath the estate's rolling hills lie weathered granite outcrops, contributing to well-draining soils that are ideal for viticulture. The moisture-retaining subsoils help keep the vines cool even in the heat of summer, making Goede Hoop particularly well-suited for producing bold and expressive red wines. This natural harmony of climate, soil, and careful cultivation results in wines of excellence, rich in character and complexity.

Dining

While Goede Hoop does not have a restaurant on-site, the surrounding Stellenbosch region is home to an array of exceptional dining experiences. Visitors can explore local farm-to-table eateries, fine dining establishments, and charming bistros that perfectly complement Goede Hoop's wines. Whether seeking a leisurely countryside meal or an upscale culinary adventure, the Winelands offer something to satisfy every palate.
