Freedom Hill Vineyards is a boutique estate on the slopes of the Wemmershoek Mountain, specializing in premium red wines and offering scenic tasting experiences.
Nestled between Franschhoek and Paarl on the slopes of Wemmershoek Mountain, Freedom Hill Vineyards are a testament to centuries of history and a commitment to crafting exceptional wines. Founded in November 2004, this historic winery traces its roots back to 1699 when it formed part of the farm La Paris, owned by the French Huguenot Francois Retief. Today, under the stewardship of Francois Klomp and his wife Adila, the estate has blossomed into a model boutique estate known for its exquisite red wines and picturesque setting.

Wine
Freedom Hill Vineyards focuses its efforts on producing premium red wines, with Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinotage thriving in the sandy soils of the estate. Hand-selected grapes from vineyards on the farm are meticulously crafted into wines that undergo maturation in oak barrels for 12 to 24 months, ensuring each wine reaches its peak of perfection. With a small annual production of approximately 12,000 cases, attention to detail is paramount, with foliage management playing a crucial role in grape protection and alcohol levels.

While Freedom Hill Vineyards does not boast a restaurant, guests can indulge in a cheese platter paired perfectly with their wines. The newly constructed veranda offers sweeping views of the vineyards and the historic "walk to freedom" site, providing an idyllic setting to savour the estate's offerings. For colder days, a grand fireplace in the renovated venue facility offers warmth and ambience, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine.
