Buitenverwachting is a historic wine estate on the slopes of the Constantiaberg, offering exceptional cool-climate wines, fine dining at Beyond Restaurant, and scenic picnic lawns.
Known for its elegant wines and scenic views, Buitenverwachting sits on the east-facing slopes of Constantiaberg, offering a true taste of Constantia's winemaking heritage.
Founded in 1795 by a French Huguenot settler, Buitenverwachting Winery is one of the oldest wine farms in Constantia Valley. This stunning farm on the east-facing slopes of the spectacular Constantiaberg and just 12km from False Bay, previously comprised part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the new Dutch colony at the tip of Africa.
Wine
Buitenverwachting wines are a reflection of this particular climate, rooted in deep, decomposed granite soils and kept cold by the temperate sea breezes from the nearby oceans. The farm produces classic white wines such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc as well as reds like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The tasting room offers visitors a chance to sample locally made cheeses while enjoying sweeping views of False Bay from their outdoor veranda.
