The estate
Andreas Wine Estate is a boutique winery in the Bovlei Valley of Wellington, renowned for its award-winning Syrah and historic 1799 Cape Dutch manor house.
Andreas Boutique Winery is a hidden gem nestled in the Bovlei Valley, just outside Wellington. This wine estate covers 4.5 hectares of vineyards, an elegant eighteenth-century house, and lush gardens. Its historical charm and elegance date back to its origins as one of the first Huguenot settlements in the valley. Archaeological evidence even suggests occupation by the Acheulean people over 300,000 years ago.
The estate benefits from the perfect terroir, with long, hot summer days, cool late afternoon breezes, and decomposed granite and shale soil, ideal for growing their award-winning Syrah grapes. In 2015, Andreas was acquired by a group of U.K. wine enthusiasts who are dedicated to building on the estate's heritage and reputation, taking both to new heights.
Wine
Led by Winemaker Shaun Meyeridricks, Andreas Boutique Winery is known for its award-winning Syrah. Grapes are carefully hand-picked in the early morning and brought to the cellar for transformation into magnificent wine. The wines spend 12 to 18 months in French barrels before maturing for an additional 24 months in the bottle. The result is a smooth, full-bodied wine with characteristic peppery, spicy, and berry flavours.
Andreas' boutique size allows for strict, hands-on quality control at each stage of the winemaking process, ensuring excellence from vineyard to bottle. Visitors can experience these exceptional wines by booking a tasting and private cellar tour with knowledgeable staff.
Dining
While Andreas doesn't have a restaurant on-site, there are plenty of dining options in the town of Wellington and the surrounding area.
