Tucked just outside Stellenbosch, Vergenoegd Löw The Wine Estate is a place where history, nature and luxury quietly coexist – and where a line of Indian Runner ducks might just become the highlight of your day. After nearly a decade of thoughtful restoration, this historic farm (dating back to 1696) has been reimagined by heritage visionary Prof Dr Peter Löw into a refined yet relaxed wine destination. Today, it forms part of the prestigious European Heritage Project, offering visitors a sense of calm that feels worlds away from everyday life.

A Living, Breathing Farm

Vergenoegd Löw is not just beautiful – it’s purposeful. Vineyards were replanted following detailed soil studies, regenerative farming is practised throughout the estate, and winemaking follows a simple philosophy: let the grapes lead. The result? Elegant, fresh wines with a subtle coastal influence, crafted by winemaker Vusi Dalicuba and his team.

Red wines named after Prof Löw’s children add a personal touch, while tastings at the 1773 Homestead Wine Lounge invite guests to explore the range in a truly South African way – think wine paired with biltong, bokkoms, amasi and homemade onion marmalade.

Stay, Stroll & Soak It In

Guests can linger longer in the boutique hotel and spa, unwind on walking trails dotted with Dylan Lewis sculptures, or indulge in the spa’s signature milk bath – a nod to the estate’s farming roots. And then there are the ducks. Twice daily (09:00 and 12:00), the famous Indian Runner ducks waddle through the werf on their way to work in the vineyards, providing natural pest control and endless photo opportunities.
