A wedding at Babylonstoren

One of the oldest Cape Dutch farms, Babylonstoren lies at the foot of the Simonsberg and is famous for its edible garden of more than 300 varieties, farm-to-fork restaurants and a cellar to match.

Wedding setting at Babylonstoren

The celebration

Your day at Babylonstoren

Celebrate among fruit trees, Cape Dutch gables and the Simonsberg. Babylonstoren hosts weddings across several farm venues, with menus drawn from its own garden and wines from its cellar. Contact Wine in the Cape for availability and a tailored quote.

Ceremony

Ceremonies are held outdoors under the oaks beside the stream, weather permitting. For something different, couples can marry in the House of Shadows at the bottom of the garden.

Reception Spaces

The Old Cellar, a barn with white walls and a thatched ceiling, seats 100 guests at one long table. The Wheat Barn, with stone walls and wooden floors, is for dancing or as a lounge, and the light-filled White Studio hosts a surprise dessert station. Smaller weddings can use the White Studio and Wheat Barn for dining.

Food & Drink

Dinner is a family-style feast from the farm, with salads, freshly baked bread, grilled fish, leg of lamb or pork belly, and vegetables from the garden, followed by a hidden dessert station or a plated dessert. Babylonstoren is fully licensed, pouring its own wines and Sprankel Cap Classique.

What's Included

Furniture, linen, crockery, garden flowers, a PA system, an on-the-day coordinator, waiters and barmen are included, with two planning meetings with the events coordinator. The couple stay two nights in Koornhuis, a two-bedroom cottage beside the White Studio.

Good to Know

High season runs from September to April. Guests can stay in the farm's hotel cottages and family houses. Wine in the Cape can arrange your quote, site visit and guest transport.

Frequently asked questions

Yes — the Cape Winelands is one of the world's most sought-after wedding destinations, with estates offering everything from intimate vineyard ceremonies to grand cellar receptions. Each venue page shows what's possible.

Most do. You'll often marry among the vines or in a garden, then move to a cellar or banqueting hall for the reception — all on one estate, so no guest travel in between.

Many estates offer suites and cottages for the wedding party and overnight guests. Where they don't, we'll arrange nearby stays and keep the whole party close.

Absolutely — welcome tastings, vineyard tours and post-wedding brunches are a beautiful way to extend the celebration. Tell us your plans and we'll weave them in.
