About
Wine
Jannie and Ellen Engelbrecht bought Rust en Vrede in 1977 and immediately began restoring the estate. They first renovated and outfitted the historic winery, and the first vintage of the present era was produced in 1978. There was also considerable vineyard re-planting, with an emphasis on Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. Their wines have grown in popularity over the years, and they are now prepared under the supervision of Jean Engelbrecht.
Dining
The Rust en Vrede Restaurant is located in the Estate’s original cellar, which has been renovated into a sophisticated yet relaxed fine-dining supper setting. They have done everything possible to preserve the building’s particular character so that guests are taken back in time to a simpler period when good wine and food were fundamental to the experience. Please keep in mind that the popular Winemaker’s Lunch is served in the Wine Tasting Room (or, at lunchtime, outside under the oak trees).
