The inside track

The estate

Klein Goederust is a historic, 100% black-owned boutique wine estate in Franschhoek, famous for its authentic spit braai and award-winning wines.

Nestled in the heart of Franschhoek, Klein Goederust Winery is steeped in history and cultural significance. Originally established in 1905, the estate began a new chapter in 2019 under the stewardship of the Siguqa family. Inspired by the resilience and dedication of the family matriarch, Nomaroma Siguqa—a lifelong Cape wine farm labourer—the winery now stands as a celebration of legacy, transformation, and excellence. Klein Goederust is more than just a winery; it is a testament to perseverance and community, offering visitors a soulful connection to South Africa's rich wine heritage.

Wine

The wines of Klein Goederust are deeply rooted in authenticity and history. At the heart of their offerings is the iconic Nomaroma MCC, named in honour of Nomaroma Siguqa. This cap classique, a sell-out success, reflects her refined palate and a lifetime of experience.

The historic cellar, constructed in 1905, serves as the cornerstone of their production. Visitors will find a thoughtfully crafted selection of wines, including a vibrant Chenin Blanc, a gently oaked Chardonnay, a peppery and fynbos-evoking Shiraz, a smooth Cabernet-Merlot blend, and a luscious Noble Late Harvest. The wines embody the skilled craftsmanship of winemaker Rodney Zimba, a childhood friend of the Siguqa family, blending tradition with innovation.

Dining

Klein Goederust's restaurant is a culinary homage to South African heritage. Guests are treated to a buffet-style experience featuring elevated yet comforting dishes. The menu includes spit-roasted lamb, curried and pickled fish, farmhouse bread, chicken potjiekos, roosterkoek fresh from the braai, and indulgent desserts like malva pudding and chocolate roulade. The dining space combines rustic charm with sophistication, offering both indoor and stoep seating with breathtaking views of the Franschhoek mountains.
