The inside track
The estate
Diemersdal Wine Estate is a historic, sixth-generation family-owned farm in the Durbanville wine region, renowned for its dryland-farmed Sauvignon Blanc and Pinotage.
For six generations, the Louw family has honed their winemaking skills at Diemersdal Wine Estate, since they took over in 1885. Today, Diemersdal Wine Estate stands as a renowned landmark in the picturesque Durbanville Valley, one of the oldest wine regions in the Cape.
Visitors are invited to soak in the beauty of the valley while indulging in the exceptional Diemersdal wines at the inviting tasting room. The noble grape varieties that contribute to Diemersdal's wines flourish in the optimal conditions of the Dorstberg's slopes, with deep red Hutton soils lending their distinctive character. As part of the Wine of Origin Cape Town, the vineyards benefit from the cooling mists that roll in from the nearby Atlantic Ocean, imparting a unique touch to Diemersdal's wines.
Wine
Diemersdal wines truly encapsulate the essence of the Durbanville terroir, representing the harmonious interplay between topography, soil composition, and climate. The grapes thrive in deep red Hutton soils, rich in decomposed granite and clay.
To craft their award-winning red wines, they employ traditional open fermenters that accentuate the natural flavours and soften the tannins. The estate's meticulous barrel selection for each varietal further enhances the final product. In their state-of-the-art winery, dedicated to white wines, the winemakers adopt a minimal intervention approach to preserve the distinctive characteristics of each grape variety.
Dining
Savour the delights of The Farm Eatery at Diemersdal Wine Estate, where Chef Martin de Kock showcases his passion for South African flavours, merging them with the finesse of French culinary techniques and inspiration drawn from his global journeys. Whether you cosy up inside the meticulously restored old farm stable, exuding a warm and rustic ambience, or lounge on the lawns overlooking the vineyards, expect hearty seasonal dishes that perfectly complement the Diemersdal experience.
Cooking outside is an important aspect of South African culture. A braai has evolved into an iconic South African social event, with family and friends coming to share excellent tales and a great bottle of wine, creating a memorable experience.
