Welcome To The Tulbagh Winelands

Tulbagh, steeped in history and uniquely Cape Dutch, offers all the modern conveniences that the discerning traveller could desire. Nature lovers, adrenaline junkies, wine lovers, families, and those simply looking for peace and quiet are all catered for.
Tulbagh is surrounded by imposing mountain ranges, with the Obiqua Mountains to the west, the Winterhoek Mountains to the north, and the Witzenberg Mountains to the east. During the hot summer months, the valley’s southern side is open to cooling southeast winds. As a result, Tulbagh has some of the most diverse and appealing viticultural conditions in the Western Cape, and the differences in terroir available to winemakers allow for a wide variety of distinctive wines of excellence, characteristics that have attracted many new producers to the valley.

More about Tulbagh Winelands
Amazing insight into the Tulbagh Winelands

Wine has been produced on a commercial scale in the basin for many years, but significant progress has only recently been made. In and around town, there are now numerous wine estates. The significance of this industry in the surrounding area is noteworthy, so much so that many of the producers are now part of the Tulbagh Wine Route, which is attracting an increasing number of tourists to Tulbagh who are keen to taste the wines produced by the members.
The wine route is peppered with graceful old estates, as well as decidedly new vineyards with state-of-the-art cellars. There is also a handful of micro-producers and boutique wineries. Here, history and tradition combine and innovate.
