Welbedacht Wine Estate, located in the picturesque area of Wellington, is owned by the Burger family and is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a charming farm-style ambience, rich history dating back to the 1830s, and stunning views. The estate was purchased in 1997 and underwent an extensive restoration process, which is reflected in its Dutch name, “Welbedacht,” meaning “well thought out.” The Burger family’s commitment to quality is evident in every detail of the estate, creating a fantastic atmosphere that seamlessly blends relaxation and excellence.

Wine

Welbedacht’s terroir, predominantly decomposed granite on the slopes of Groenberg, contributes to the unique character of its wines. The estate, with vineyards facing a western direction, benefits from the cool south-facing planting areas. The diverse soils and elevation, with the highest vines at 1000 feet above sea level, nurture 12 cultivars, including Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Cinsaut, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Merlot, and Mourvedre.
