About Waterleliefontein

Tucked away on the scenic Van der Stel Pass of the Bot River Valley, Waterleliefontein is a 46-hectare farm owned and lovingly tended by Jo and Tessa Neser since December 2012. Though both are commercial lawyers by trade, their hearts have long been rooted in the South African countryside.

With fond memories of farm life and a lifelong appreciation for the veld, the couple was drawn to the peaceful charm of this land—especially after discovering a dam blanketed with indigenous blue water lilies, which inspired the farm’s name. Today, Waterleliefontein is a testament to their shared passions for sustainable agriculture, premium olive oil, and expressive wines.

Wine

Wine production at Waterleliefontein began in 2017 with the planting of two hectares of Syrah and one hectare of Grenache Noir. These vineyards have since yielded remarkable results, culminating in a Grenache Noir Syrah Blend that received glowing praise with its 2019 and 2020 vintages. The 2021 vintage, a Syrah-led blend, earned a Top 10 accolade in the Prescient Signature Red Blend Report for 2024. With a focus on quality over quantity, Waterleliefontein produces elegant, terroir-driven wines that reflect the unique character of their corner of the Overberg. Shop their wine here. 

Dine

There is no on-site restaurant at Waterleliefontein, but visitors can explore the excellent dining options available throughout the Van der Stel Pass region and neighbouring Bot River, many of which feature local wines and produce.

Olive Oil

In addition to wine, Waterleliefontein is known for its outstanding extra virgin olive oil. Their 10-hectare grove produces a medium-intensity oil with a fresh, grassy aroma, fruity flavours, and a pleasantly peppery finish. Bottled in distinctive Mediterranean blue tins, this artisanal product is a celebration of careful cultivation and thoughtful processing. The oil is a blend of various olive cultivars grown sustainably on the farm, embodying the richness of the region’s soil and climate.

Wine Tasting

Currently, wine tastings at Waterleliefontein are by appointment only and are offered in a warm, personal setting. Guests are invited to enjoy a relaxed introduction to the farm’s boutique red blends and discover the story behind each bottle directly from the owners themselves.
