About Saxenburg Wine Estate
Saxenburg Wine Estate is a renowned South African winery nestled in the heart of the Cape Winelands, near Stellenbosch. With a history dating back to the 17th century, Saxenburg has firmly established itself as a producer of exceptional wines and a destination for wine enthusiasts from around the world.
The estate’s history can be traced back to 1693 when it was granted to Joachim Sax, a German settler, by the then Governor of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel. The land was originally named “Sassenbosch” after Sax’s hometown in Germany but was later changed to “Saxenburg” to honour its founder.
