Rietvallei Wine Estate holds its place as one of South Africa’s most enduring family-owned wine estates, standing as one of the pioneering wine farms in the picturesque Robertson Wine Valley. The Burger family, known for their storytelling prowess, has passed down this art from generation to generation, now carried forth by the estate’s sixth generation. While deeply cherishing their heritage, the family also recognizes the importance of building upon the sacrifices, wisdom, and labour of their ancestors. They are committed to fostering innovation and embracing fresh, exciting approaches to the craft of winemaking.

Wine

Currently, 75% of the estate is planted with noble white cultivars, with red making up only 25%. Along with the customary Red Muscadel, Rietvallei is also home to several other classic varietals, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Weisser Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Tinta Barocca, and Cinsaut. The famed Rietvallei Red Muscadel vineyard from 1908 is made up of bush vines and spans about a quarter of an acre.

These vines flourish in the fresh, pure Karoo air away from the city’s smog. The vines are frequently covered in mist in the morning, and a breeze from the far-off Indian Ocean further cools the grapes, allowing them to ripen gradually and subtly. Shop their wine here.
