Wine

La Motte is renowned for producing a diverse range of exceptional wines, reflecting the unique terroir of the region. Dine

Guests are invited to enjoy the spacious and relaxed indoor restaurant or to take in the estate gardens and the ambience of the age-old oaks from the wrap-around stoep. The seasonal menu celebrates the concept of farm-to-table and focuses on local and traditional flavours with elements of open-fire cooking. It also offers options for children.

La Motte offers a wealth of activities for visitors to immerse themselves in the estate’s charm. Explore the exquisite grounds with a guided garden tour, where you can discover indigenous flora and admire the captivating sculptures placed throughout the estate. Art enthusiasts can visit the La Motte Museum, which showcases a fascinating collection of Pierneef’s artworks, as well as the Rupert family’s private collection.

Wine Tasting

Sample a variety of La Motte’s award-winning wines amidst the special ambience of the cellar and barrel maturation room or while relaxing outside, overlooking the beautiful gardens. A comprehensive selection of La Motte’s award-winning wines are presented by well-informed wine ambassadors. From the popular La Motte Sauvignon Blanc, Millennium and Vin de Joie Rosé, to the elegance of the Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. 

JAN Franschhoek

La Motte invites you to JAN Franschhoek Season IV, an exceptional food and wine experience presented from a charming historic cottage, the Veepos, right in the middle of the Franschhoek Valley’s most picturesque lavender fields.

 

This exceptional, seasonal food and wine experience combines the nostalgia of a South African family table with Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen’s Michelin-star culinary innovation.

 

The team responsible for this special culinary experience on La Motte is led by Chef Lara van Heerden in the JAN Franschhoek kitchen. Expect regional traditions, familiar flavours and local ingredients transformed to reflect the exciting context of modern global cuisine. Sourced and prepared with the utmost care and consideration, dishes are paired with the estate’s award-winning wines and presented with mesmerising flair.

Spens

The generously stocked shelves of the La Motte Spens are reminiscent of an old-fashioned pantry offering all you need to prepare a wonderful meal. Enjoy artisanal breads from the La Motte Bakery, exceptional local cheeses, fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, pickles and preserves, charcuterie, Karoo-certified lamb from the farm Matjesfontein, free-range beef and of course those pantry staples such as extra virgin olive oil, raw honey, the most beautiful butter and an interesting selection of seasonings.

Farm Shop

Each item in the La Motte Farm Shop reflects the heart and soul of the estate and invites you to take home a piece of its classic charm. Celebrating the skill of local artisans and capturing the essence of our indigenous landscapes, items are made in small batches with exceptional attention to detail while beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces are born from collaborations with artists.

Museum

Continuing the family’s passion for art, the Ateljee is an exciting creative space for guests to engage with artworks, artists and makers. “Ateljee” is an Afrikaans word, derived from the French atelier, meaning studio or workshop, a space where artists, designers and makers bring their creativity to life. At La Motte, the Ateljee serves as both an exhibition space and a working studio, offering guests the opportunity to engage with art through curated workshops and seasonal exhibitions.

Mountainside Hiking

The Sustainable Hike is a further expression of La Motte’s commitment to the highest conservation and biodiversity standards and the protection of precious indigenous flora and fauna in the mountain area surrounding the estate and the adjoining Wemmershoek mountain range. The circular route, which starts at the La Motte Tasting Room, stretches over five kilometres, with the hiking trail section covering two kilometres. The time required to complete the trail is about two hours when walking and three hours when strolling.

Stay at La Motte

While La Motte Wine Estate does not provide on-site accommodation, visitors have a variety of lodging options in nearby Franschhoek. This charming town offers a plethora of luxurious boutique hotels, guesthouses, and cosy bed-and-breakfasts, allowing guests to enjoy a restful stay after a day of exploring the wine estate and the surrounding attractions.
