Groot Constantia is South Africa’s oldest wine estate, having been in operation since 1685. Groot Constantia is now a national monument and heritage site, as well as one of South Africa’s most popular tourist destinations. The Estate is a testament to how one man’s passion for wine led to the establishment of South Africa’s first wine farm in 1685. The wines are made to perfection from rich African soil. Its heritage represents prosperity, life, and beauty.
Wine
Groot Constantia’s vineyards are carefully cultivated on the slopes of the Table Mountain range, where the unique terroir, combined with the cooling Atlantic Ocean breezes, create an ideal microclimate for grape cultivation. The estate’s position at the meeting point of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans contributes to the creation of a wide range of microclimates, allowing for the cultivation of various grape varieties.
The 155-hectare estate includes 70% red and 30% white grape varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Muscat de Frontignan. Tastings are available in their historic Production Cellar, Cloete Cellar, and Wine and Gift Shop.

Groot Constantia boasts two restaurants, the Jonkerhuis and Simon’s Restaurant. With a charming old-world feel, Jonkerhuis is nestled in the heart of the wine estate surrounded by century-old oak trees, offering a divine menu and a range of indoor and outdoor spaces. Simon’s is a bistro-style establishment featuring an alfresco terrace with panoramic views of the Groot Constantia vineyards or an interior with a massive fire for chilly days.
