Anwilka is a prestigious wine estate located in the heart of Stellenbosch’s acclaimed Helderberg region — an area affectionately referred to as the “Golden Triangle” for its reputation as one of the finest red wine-producing terroirs in the world.

Established in the late 1990s by former Klein Constantia owner Lowell Jooste, in partnership with Bordeaux legends Hubert de Boüard of Château Angélus and Bruno Prats of Château Cos d’Estournel, Anwilka was founded with a singular vision: to produce a world-class South African red wine by combining the best of French winemaking heritage with local expertise. With nearly three decades of viticultural experience on the property, Anwilka has established itself as a benchmark for excellence in the Cape Winelands.

Wine

The estate’s maiden vintage in 2005 — a Syrah-Cabernet Sauvignon blend — was met with international acclaim, with famed American critic Robert Parker calling it “the finest red wine I have ever had from South Africa.” Today, Anwilka continues to build on that legacy under the direction of Matthew Day, the renowned winemaker at Klein Constantia. The estate’s 39 hectares of vineyards are planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, with smaller blocks of Malbec and Petit Verdot to add depth and nuance to their signature blends. Anwilka does not have an on-site restaurant, but visitors to the broader Helderberg and Stellenbosch regions are surrounded by some of the finest culinary destinations in South Africa. Many of these establishments feature Anwilka wines on their lists, making it possible to enjoy these acclaimed blends alongside world-class cuisine.

Wine Estate Experiences

Anwilka is not open to the public and does not currently offer tours or tastings. However, its wines are available through select distributors and featured in prestigious cellars and wine lists both locally and internationally.
